NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams continued their impressive seasons as both Blue Hen teams swept Lafayette, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon at the UD Tennis Courts.
The Delaware women remained perfect on the season by moving to 7-0 on the year, as the Blue Hens posted their third consecutive victory over the Leopards. The UD men improved to 6-2 this season, won their fourth straight overall and recorded their fourth straight win over Lafayette. Both the Leopard men and women fell to 3-5 on the year.
Elena Berry (at right) defeated Allie Seranko 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Blue Hen women’s team, while Megan Doran shut out Ansley Scudder 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Ivana Petrich topped Rachel Rohinsky 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 for Delaware, while Jo Jo Gruber won by the identical score over Sarah Sykes at No. 4.
Amanda Campbell was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Caitlin Gordon at No. 5, while Samantha Carnall blanked Emily DeLuca 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Berry and Gruber defeated Seranko and Gordon, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles for the Blue Hens, while Petrich and Carnall eased past Sykes and DeLuca, 8-1, at No. 2. Doran and Campbell completed the doubles sweep for UD with an 8-0 victory over Scudder and Nancy Parker at No. 3.
Austin Longacre needed three sets to edge Eric Wiley, 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles for the Delaware men, while Andre Vorobyov topped Doug Gallagher 7-6 (5), 6-3 at No. 2. Chris Hinker had little trouble in dispatching Justin Haar 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while Sam Barrer shut out Lee Kojanis 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4. Courtney Scott was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at No. 5, and Nick Piacente defeated James Murphy 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 for the Blue Hens.
Longacre and Greenberg edged Haar and Kojanis, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles for Delaware, while Hinker and Scott were 8-2 winners over Gallagher and MacLelland at No. 2. Vorobyov and Camilo Perez defeated Murphy and Andrew Morris, 8-4, at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep.
Both Blue Hen teams open Colonial Athletic Association play on Friday when they travel to Hofstra for 1 p.m. matches with the Pride.
