COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Ivana Petrich won both her singles (Flight B) and doubles (Flight A) matches for the University of Delaware women’s tennis team in day one of the Maryland Invitational Tournament on Friday. The tournament features players from 10 teams, including Dartmouth, Georgetown, Army, James Madison, UNC-Wilmington, Pittsburgh, Villanova, George Washington, and Delaware.

In round one of Flight A singles play, Elena Berry received a bye, and Delaware’s Megan Doran fell 6-2, 6-1 to Maryland’s Eleanor Peters. Round two saw Berry defeat UNC-Wilmington’s Lauren Isenhour, 6-2, 6-3.

Amanda Campbell received a bye in round one of Flight B singles, and the Hens took the other two matches. Lauren Gruber defeated James Madison’s Barrett Donner 6-3, 6-0, and Petich defeated Pittsburgh’s Minh Evans 6-2, 6-2.

In round two of Flight B singles, Gruber was defeated by Maryland’s Lisa Miller, 6-3, 4-6, 10-2, but Petrich and Campbell went on to win their matches. Petrich defeated Nova Southeastern’s Edita Kulichova, 6-4, 6-3 and Campbell defeated George Washington’s Zoe Krohn, 6-3, 6-4.

Kristen Mueller and Samantha Carnall both received byes in round one of Flight C, but then both dropped their round two matches.

In doubles action, Berry and Gruber lost their first match of the season to UNC-Wilmington’s Collins and Cahle. Petrich and Carnall went on to beat Brown and Shea of Georgetown, 8-4, and also win their second round match over George Washington’s Knoedler and Altman.

In doubles Flight B play, Doran and Campbell won their matches in round one and two in dominating fashion.
