MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Senior Amanda Campbell (at right) set a new Delaware doubles wins record when she and Megan Doran won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles on Monday afternoon at Mt. Olive, giving Campbell the 70th doubles win of her career. The University of Delaware men’s and women’s tennis teams both shut Mt. Olive 9-0. The men improve to 8-2 for the 2008-09 season,and the women stay unbeaten for the season at 9-0. The women’s 9-0 record is the best start to a season since the 1997 women’s team started 17-0.

The match was scored in Division II format because the host, Mt. Olive is a Division II school. Both teams won all six singles matches and all three doubles matches to win 9-0.

The Blue Hen's No. 1 tandem of junior Austin Longacre and senior Nolan Greenberg defeated Federico Barros and Murillo Pelegrino, 8-4. Delaware's No. 2 pair of Chris Hincker and Courtney Scott defeated Alexadre Queiros and Daniel Mostearu, 8-3, and freshman Andre Vorobyov and senior Camilo Perez defeated Diogo Fender and Diogo Miaranda, 8-4.

In singles action, Delaware won all six matches. As a team, they are 96-36 in singles play on the year.

Longacre defeated Mostearu 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Longacre, who set the school record in 2007-08 for singles wins in a season with 22, is now 17-4 in 2008-09. His 49 career wins move him into sole possesion of ninth place on the career singles wins list, and just one away from a five-way tie for fifth place.

Freshman Andre Vorobyov bounced back after a loss at Hofstra to beat Queiros at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Then, sophomore Chris Hincker defeated Barros, 7-6, (7-4) 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Junior Sam Barrer was up 3-1 when Pelegrino retired at No. 4 singles.

Blue Hen freshman Courtney Scott defeated Fender 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, and sophomore Nick Piacente would finish singles play by defeating Miaranda, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.

In women’s action, Campbell and Doran’s No. 3 doubles win gives Campbell 70 wins for her career, surpassing her former doubles partner from freshman and sophomore year and current Assistant Tennis Coach Susan Pollack for the most career individual doubles wins in UD history.

Delaware’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles team both won as well as junior Elena Berry and freshman Jo Jo Gruber defeated Carol Ano and Jessia Souza, 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and sophomore Ivana Petrich and freshman Samantha Carnall beat Sofia Medeiros and Kristen Jorez, 8-3 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles action, Berry started things off by earning a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over Souza. Berry improved to 18-4 for the season.

Doran won again in No. 2 singles play, beating Ano 6-3, 6-2. She is now 12-1 for the season at No. 2 singles and 15-4 overall.

At the third, fourth and fifth singles flights, Delaware dominated en-route to three 6-0, 6-0 decisions. Petrich improved to 13-0 with the 6-0, 6-0 decision over Camila Nazebayshe. Petrich is 19-2 for the season and 40-5 for her career. Freshman Jo Jo Gruber won at No. 4 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-0 over Medeiros. She improves to 17-3 for the season. Finally, Campbell improved to 15-3 for the year and 9-0 at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Viana Pietra. Campbell now has 59 singles wins in her career, which puts her in sole possession of sixth place on the school’s all-time singles wins list.

Freshman Samantha Carnall finished things off for UD at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jorez.
