University of Delaware's Nick Piacente and Ivana Petrich Earn CAA Singles Players of the Week, Vorobyov and Perez Win Doubles Team of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. - Delaware sophomore Nick Piacente (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery), and the Blue Hens’ duo of freshman Andre Vorobyov (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and junior Camilo Perez (Bucaramanga, Colombia) earned men’s tennis honors from the Colonial Athletic Association for the week ending March 31. Also, Blue Hen sophomore Ivana Petrich (at right) was selected as the CAA women’s tennis Co-Singles Player of the Weekwith VCU sophomore Laura Burns.

Piacente was chosen as the CAA men’s tennis Player of the Week after posting a perfect 3-0 mark at No. 6 singles. The sophomore defeated Lafayette’s James Murphy 6-2, 6-1, blanked Hofstra’s Eric Gladstone 6-0, 6-0 and cruised past Mt. Olive’s Diogo Miaranda 6-3, 6-1. Piacente has won seven straight matches dating back to March 8.

Vorobyov and Perez were selected as the CAA men’s Doubles Team of the Week after going 3-0 at No. 3 doubles. The duo topped Lafaytte’s James Murphy and Andrew Morris 8-4, beat Hofstra’s Alex Hosner and Eric Gladstone 8-2 and knocked off Mt. Olive’s Diogo Fender and Diogo Miaranda 8-4. Vorobyov and Perez have won their past six matches.

Petrich lost just two games in posting a 3-0 record at No. 3 singles. She beat Lafayette’s Rachel Rohinsky and Hofstra’s Stacey Kent by identical 6-1, 6-0 scores and then blanked Mt. Olive’s Camila Nazebayashe 6-0, 6-0. Petrich is a perfect 14-0 at No. 3 singles and 18-2 overall. She has not lost a singles match in a dual meet all season long.

The Blue Hen men’s team has won its last six matches including a 9-0 shutout win at Mount Olive on Mar. 30 to improve to 8-2 (1-0 CAA) for the season.

The women’s team is 9-0 (1-0 CAA) this season after also blanking Mount Olive, 9-0 on Mar. 30. The Blue Hens are off to their best start since 1997 when Delaware started the season 17-0.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow, Apr. 3 when they visit CAA foe UNC Wilmington. The women’s match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and the men at 2:30.
