RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware women’s tennis players, senior Elena Berry and junior Montse Ripoll (at right), were named the Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week for the week ending Feb. 21, while senior men’s tennis player Austin Longacre was selected as the CAA Co-Player of the Week for the week ending March 7 announced this week.
The Delaware women’s squad (4-1 overall) tallied a pair of home victories over Fairfield, 5-0, and George Washington, 6-1, on Feb. 20 and 21, respectively. The Blue Hens’ No. 1 doubles tandem remained undefeated while improving to 8-0 on the season by beating Fairfield’s Paulina Rys and Kristen Liu, 6-1, 6-3, and George Washington’s Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn, 8-4.
VCU’s Josefin Hjertquist earned CAA women’s player of the week for the week of Feb. 21.
The Blue hen men’s team (2-4 overall) was edged 4-3 by the Navy Midshipmen on March 7, but Longacre came away with a valiant No. 1 singles victory. The Landenberg, Pa. native improved his record to 11-1 on the season at No. 1 singles by pulling out a 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 triumph over Navy’s Owen Bullard.
The Hens’ tennis teams compete this afternoon at Lehigh as the men’s squad beings play at 1 p.m. and the women’s team, 4 p.m.
