NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware men's and women's tennis teams and four individual student-athletes were recently honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for their academic excellence.
Senior Camilo Perez and juniors Chris Hincker, Megan Doran (at right) and Ivana Petrich received 2009 ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2008-09 season.
In order for a student athlete to earn such a status, a player must be a varsity letterwinner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
The Hens men's team was one of just 52 NCAA Division I schools nationwide to receive such an award, while the women's team was one of 114 squads.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above. All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the team GPA for the current academic year.
