NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s tennis team controlled play against visiting Saint Joseph’s University at the Delaware Field House Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon to ace its way to a 6-1 victory.

En route to earning the match’s lone doubles point, juniors Ivana Petrich (at right) and Montse Ripoll paired to collect their sixth victory of the season and remain undefeated at No. 1 doubles. The Delaware (2-0 overall) duo defeated the Hawks’ (1-2 overall) Jhennifer Kedzierski and Laura Matz, 8-4.

At No. 2 doubles, the team of sophomore Samantha Carnall and freshman Amanda Halstrom overpowered Saint Joseph’s Casey Robinson and Nicole Esposito, 8-3, while juniors Megan Doran and Kristen Mueller registered the No. 3 win. The Hens captured the third and final doubles victory as they defeated Tara Walsh and Kate Dowd, 8-2.

Doran led the Hens at No. 1 singles, defeating Kedzierski, 6-2, 6-2. Petrich was edged by Robinson at No. 2 singles, 7-6 (4), 6-1, though Ripoll got the Blue and Gold back on track at the No. 3 spot as she defeated Matz, 6-4, 6-2.

Carnall dictated a strong 6-1, 6-1 No. 4 singles win over Hawks’ Sally Kalani Stainier. At No. 5 singles, Halstrom blanked Esposito, 6-0, 6-1, while Mueller closed out singles play at the No. 6 spot with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Walsh.
