NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware women’s tennis team continued to dominate play against The College of New Jersey at the Delaware Field House on Saturday afternoon in a non-scoring match.

In round one of action, Delaware senior Elena Berry (at right), a 2008 third team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection in both singles and doubles, teamed with junior Montserrat Ripoll in the #1 spot with a tight 9-7 win over the Lions. Junior Ivana Petrich and freshman Amanda Halstrom notched an 8-5 doubles win, and junior Megan Doran paired with sophomore Samantha Carnall for an 8-2 victory. Junior Blue Hen Kristen Mueller notched the only singles win of the round with an 8-3 victory. 

The following round of action also featured the doubles squads of Berry and Montserrat, Petrich and Halstrom, and Doran and Carnall. All three squads came away with win – 8-3, 7-8 (7-4), and 8-5 respectively.

In round three of play, Doran fought for a 3-6, 6-1, 10-6 singles win for the Hens. Berry tallied a win in straight sets 6-3, 6-1, as did Petrich 6-1, 6-1. Ripoll outlasted her opponent for a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Carnall and Halstrom both won all but one of their respective games to go 6-1, 6-0.

The Hens will travel to Swarthmore College on Sept. 12-13 for the Swarthmore Tournament. The matches will begin at 9 a.m.
