2010: Appeared in a team-high 21 games with one save and one start • ended with a 4.66 earned run average and a 1-3 record • pitched 36.2 innings • had a season high seven strikeouts against Old Dominion on May 15 in four innings of relief • made his lone start of the season against Northeastern on May 22, pitching three innings while allowing no runs or hits in an 8-2 victory for the Blue Hens • struck out four batters in his only start • earned his only save of the season on April 1 in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic against Lafayette, pitching the final 1.2 innings, only giving up a two-out single in the ninth.
2009: Appeared in 14 games with two starts on the mound • struck out 17 in 28.1 innings of work • earned a save after tossing three innings of relief against Fordham on February 27 • allowed just one hit and struck out one in the 6-2 victory over the Rams • saw action in all four games of the Manhattan series • became the first pitcher in program history to appear in three contests on the same day after accomplishing the feat against the Jaspers on March 8 • tossed 1.2 innings of relief during the last part of a suspended game before firing 2.2 more frames during the regularly-scheduled doubleheader • also earned the victory in the first game of the series against the Jaspers • tossed two innings of scoreless relief against UNCW in the season finale.
2008: Pulled double-duty during the season, making 24 appearances in the field and 14 on the mound • started 13 games during the season, including seven at third base • named the CAA Rookie of the Week on April 7 after posting at least one hit in all four of the team’s games • recorded his first career multi-hit effort during that span, going 2-for-3 with a double and three runs scored against Hofstra on April 4 • later knocked in two runs against the Pride on April 5 • made his first career start on the mound against Princeton on March 2 • struck out two Tigers and allowed just six hits in five innings of work • posted a season-high four strikeouts in his next appearance against Northeastern on March 15 and fired 3.1 scoreless innings against James Madison on April 13 • earned his first career win against Georgia State on May 2 after working two innings out of the bullpen.
High School: Three-year letterwinner at St. Mark’s High School for coach Matt Smith • pitched and played shortstop • two-time All-State selection • team won two state championships in 2005 and 2007 • also was a two-time All-State performer in soccer as a goalie.
Personal: Matthew James "Matt" Harden • son of Stephen and Sharon Harden • younger brother of former UD baseball standouts Steve and Dave Harden • Dave played in 110 games in 2003-06 and batted .222 with five home runs, 33 RBI, and 24 stolen bases • Steve played in 215 games in 2000-03 and batted . 282 (team-high .302 in 2003) while hitting 33 home runs and knocking in 159 runs • Steve also pitched in 23 games and recorded six career saves, was a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2000, was team MVP in 2003, and later served as a UD assistant coach in 2007-09 • enjoys hunting and the outdoors • civil engineering major at Delaware.
