At Delaware: Third-year transfer from North Carolina State who will compete for the starting job behind the plate and add experienced depth to Delaware’s catching core.
2012: Appeared in 29 games (20 starts) for the Blue Hens at catcher • produced one multi-hit game on Feb. 19 at Houston where he went 2-for-4 • hit .300 (3-for-10) with one run scored during a season-high, three-game hitting streak from Mar. 21-31 • played for the New Market Rebels of the Valley Baseball League during the summer with teammate Chad Kuhl • hit .138 (9-for-65) with 1 double, 3 RBI and 1 run scored in 27 games.
2011: Sat out due to NCAA transfer rules and retained a year of eligibility.
At North Carolina State: Did not play in 2010 • appeared in six games as a freshman in 2009 with 14 putouts and recording one assist • team went 25-31 in 2009.
High School: Four-year starter and letterwinner at Leonardtown High School as a catcher • also played basketball for four years while playing golf and running cross country for one season.
Personal: Andrew David Burgess ("burr-jiss") • son of David and Lynn Burgess • has two older brothers • grandfather, Hoyle Chancellor, played major league baseball for the St. Louis Browns in the early 1950's • criminal justice major at Delaware.
