At Delaware: Most experienced member of the team after starting 162 games during his first three seasons in Newark • looks to continue his outstanding career while solidifying his spot as one of the top second basemen in program history.

2012: Joined Brock Niggebrugge as the only UD ballplayers to play in all 58 games during the season • surpassed the 200-hit plateau on May 26 with 2-for-5 performance against UNCW in the CAA Baseball Championships, becoming the 35th member in Delaware history • earned Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament Team selection after he hit .467 (14-30) with 6 doubles, 1 home run, 5 RBI and 6 runs scored in six games at the 2012 Virginia 529 CAA Baseball Championships • among the CAA leaderboard in five offensive categories; third in doubles (21), seventh in total plate appearances (274), eighth in at bats (235), 10th in walks (32) and 12th in runs scored (48) • led the Blue Hens in eight offensive categories; at bats (235), runs (48), hits (68), doubles (21), triples (3), total bases (107), slugging percentage (.567) and walks (32) • tallied 20 multi-hit games, six multi-RBI games, 11 multi runs-scored games • collected season-high’s in; runs scored (3) twice, last on Apr. 29 vs. Hofstra when he went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two walks in UD’s 10-9 loss to the Pride • hits (4) in the CAA Championship Game on May 26 vs. UNCW after he went 4-for-5 with 1 home run, 2 RBI and 1 run scored • doubles (2) three times, last on May 23 in the first-round game of the CAA Championships vs. Towson, where he went 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in a thrilling 8-7, 12-inning victory over the Tigers • had a season-high, eight-game hitting streak from Apr. 15 vs. VCU through May 4 at George Mason, where he hit .367 (11-30) with six RBI • led the Hens with 169 defensive assists starting every game at second base • played for the Thomasville Hi-Toms of the Coastal Plains League during the summer • hit .263 (20-76) with 3 doubles, 13 RBI and 7 runs scored as the Hi-Toms produced a 24-30 record during the season.

2011: Joined Steve Ulaky as the only Blue Hens to start all 53 games during the 2011 campaign • ranked second on the squad with a .386 on-base percentage and 28 walks while anchoring the lineup from the leadoff position • also finished second with 20 doubles, which marked the fifth-highest total in the Colonial Athletic Association • recorded a hit in 39 games, highlighted by 20 multi-hit efforts • opened the season with a pair of three-hit performances during the team’s first three games • chipped in with two hits and a pair of runs during UD’s thrilling 7-3 victory over No. 9 Arizona State on February 25 • matched season-highs with three hits and three runs scored against intrastate rival Delaware State on March 16 • drove in a season-high three runs during a 15-12 victory over Temple on March 29 • pieced together his finest effort in conference action during a three-game series with Georgia State from April 1-3 • had two hits and at least one run scored in each of the games against the Panthers • finished the series with six hits, four runs scored, and two RBI while leading the squad to a pair of victories • flashed his power potential during an outburst in the middle of April • launched his only home runs of the season during a three-game span after blasting his first against UNC Wilmington on April 9 before tacking on another one against Towson on April 15 • his home run against UNCW came in the ninth inning and sealed a thrilling 6-5 victory over the Seahawks • posted a season-best nine-game hitting streak from April 17-30 • honored as Delaware’s Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring the infield at second base • led the team and ranked eighth in the CAA with 132 assists while also posting a .950 fielding percentage.

2010: Named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team as a freshman • earned a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team • UD Team Rookie of the Year Award honoree • batted .350 while starting all 51 games at second base • batting average was the highest for UD freshman since current Cincinnati Reds farmhand Alex Buchholz hit .378 in 2006 • set the UD freshman record and second all-time record with a 30-game hitting streak from Feb. 28 through April 21 • ended an impressive freshman campaign with 71 hits, 16 doubles, two home runs, 35 RBI and 34 runs • went 3 for 5 with his first collegiate home run, two doubles, five RBI, and two runs scored in a 17-3 win over Maryland on Feb. 27 • recorded a team high 135 assists from second base and comes into his sophmore season riding a three-game hit streak.

High School: Earned four letters as a shortstop at Sussex Central High School • led the team to a 20-3 record as a senior • earned first-team All-State honors during his final season • also garnered second-team All-State accolades during his first three years • named the 2008 and 2009 Henlopen Conference Player of the Year • also earned four letters in football • was a two-time All-Conference selection as a quarterback • competed in basketball as well.

Personal: Derek Jordan "D.J." Long • son of David and Lisa Long • has a younger brother • majoring in health behavior science with a minor in coaching at Delaware.
