Gray Opens Delaware Baseball Blue-Gray World Series with an 8-3 Victory

NEWARK, Del. - - The University of Delaware baseball team opened its 2010 Blue-Gray World Series yesterday, as the Gray team game away with an 8-3 victory in the first of a three-game series, at Bob Hannah Stadium. Zack Migliozzi and Nick Young were the Game 1 Players of the Game.

Young, a senior right-handed pitcher, pitched seven innings of five hit baseball, giving up one earned run in process. He also struck out five batters on his way to earning the win.

Migliozzi, a freshman from Farmingdale, N.Y., finished the day 2-4 with a homerun and a double.

The Gray team belted 15 hits on the day, as Pat Dameron and Logan Gallagher had three each. Dameron, a senior outfielder, went 3-4, adding a double, as Gallagher, went 3-5, and was a homerun shy of the cycle. Alex Mottle blasted a homerun while going 2-5 and Aaron Mascoe went 2-4 with a double.

Danny Gatto finished off the final two innings for the Gray team, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits.

Starting pitcher for the Blue team was Jeff Murray who went five and two thirds innings, giving up nine hits and six runs (four earned) with three strikeouts. Kenny Fetchko finished the remaining three and a third innings, giving up two earned on six hits with two strikeouts.

Senior Dave Anderson and freshmen Jimmy Yezzo and Tyler Powell paced the Blue offense with two hits apiece. Anderson and Powell each went 2-5 on the day, with both hits resulting in a double. Yezzo finished 2-4, smacking a double as well.

Game two of the Blue-Gray World Series will continue on Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m. at Bob Hannah Stadium. Eric Young will take the hill for the Gray team, while Devon Pearson earns the nod for the Blue squad.
