RICHMOND, Va. - - After taking a pivotal series from James Madison in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, and going 3-1 overall last week, the University of Delaware baseball team was named the College Baseball Insider Northeast Team of the Week on Tuesday.

It is the second time Delaware (23-17, 13-8 CAA) has been named the Northeast Regional Team of the Week. They also won the award earlier this month on April 12.

The Blue Hens are coming off the important series win over James Madison and defeated Saint Joseph’s to go 3-1 on the week. James Madison and Delaware came into the weekend tied in second in the CAA, and the two wins kept the Blue Hens in a tie for second; only a half came behind UNC Wilmington for first place.

With the three wins, Delaware moved up in the latest NCAA RPI rankings, sliding up 15 spots to number 90. They are now the second CAA team on the list, directly behind James Madison after beating them two out of three games.

Aaron Mascoe led the offense last week, batting .400 for all four games. He went 6-for-15 with a triple, a home run, four runs scored and an RBI. Pat Dameron batted .400 against JMU, going 6-for-15 in the three games with three doubles, a home run, six RBI’s and five runs scored. Had the eventual game-winning RBI on Friday, and tied the game in the sixth with a three-run home run on Sunday.

Steve Ulaky and Dave Anderson each had two home runs for the Blue Hens, who hit nine overall on the week. Dameron, Mascoe, Nick Ferdinand, DJ Long, and Jimmy Yezzo each added home runs. For Yezzo it was his first collegiate home run.

Corey Crispell pitched the final 5.2 innings on Saturday to pick up the series win, only allowing two runs on two hits in a solid relief effort. He also struck out five Duke batters on the afternoon. Eric Buckland also had a solid outing, getting the win against Saint Joseph’s, pitching five innings of one hit baseball, and striking out four Hawks in his first start of the season.

Cal Poly was named the CBI Team of the Week after going 3-1 against nationally ranked teams, including a Big West series win over first-place Cal State Fullerton. They also defeated no. 14 Fresno State before taking on the sixth ranked Titans.

Along with Delaware, High Point was named the Southeast Team of the Week while no. 7 Texas A&M was named for the Central. No. 9 Arizona State earns the West title after sweeping California.

The Blue Hens will take on Villanova this afternoon in the Liberty Bell Classic Final at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Tickets are five dollars and can be purchased at the First Base Gate at the stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
