RICHMOND, Va. - - University of Delaware baseball seniors Pat Dameron and Steve Ulaky were named to the 2011 Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Team today, announced by the conference office. Dameron was named to the First-Team while Ulaky earned a spot as an Honorable Mention.
The senior duo was both named to the First Team All-CAA and Second Team ABCA All-East Region last year while leading the Blue Hens offensively, and were both honored as being named captains, with Dave Anderson, for 2011.
Dameron (above right) will continue to be a power threat at the plate, and an every day player in left field for head coach Jim Sherman. Last season, he batted .353 while starting all 51 games, hitting primarily as the team’s cleanup hitter. He drove in a team second-best 59 runs while hitting 19 doubles and 14 homeruns.
The Dublin, Pa. native enjoyed a career day last season against Hofstra, belting three homeruns, tying the single-game school record for homeruns in a single game. Dameron finished the May afternoon 4-for-6 with five RBI’s and four runs scored. He hit solo home runs in the first two innings and followed that up with an RBI single, before blasting a two-run shot in the seventh to cap his day.
Ulaky (below right) will also look to continue his success at the plate this season, but will return to the field as a fulltime first baseman. In 49 games a season ago, Ulaky was second on the team with a .374 batting average. He totaled 68 hits while 19 went for doubles along with seven homeruns, at the team’s primary designated hitter. He knocked in 37 RBI’s while crossing the plate 36 times.
The Silver Spring, Md. native had a banner day last year against Hofstra as he went 4-for-5 with three RBI’s and a run scored. He hit two doubles on the May afternoon, and tied a season-high with the three runs he drove in. It also was his only four-hit game of the season.
Georgia State outfielder Mark Micowski highlights a field of talented ballplayers that fill out the Preseason All-CAA Team. Micowski, a senior from Haddam, Conn., was voted as the CAA Preseason Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches. Micowski earned first-team All-CAA honors in 2010 after batting .390 with five homeruns and 40 RBI’s. He led the CAA with 69 runs scored, was tied for second in hits (91) and ranked fourth in stolen bases (17).
The Blue Hens kick off the 2011 season when they travel to UNC Greensboro for a three-game series. Game one is slated for February 18 with the first pitch coming at 4 p.m.
