Delaware Baseball’s Yezzo’s Adds to Weekly Awards from College Baseball Hall of Fame and CollegeBaseballInsider.com

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball team was honored by  the College Baseball Hall of Fame an CollegeBaseballInsider.com this  week as Blue Hens first baseman Jimmy Yezzo (at right) was named to the National  All-Star Lineup and Northeast Region Player of the Week respectively for  his performance last week. 

Yezzo, a sophomore first baseman from Cherry Hill, N.J. (Bishop Eustace  HS), posted a .500 (10-20) batting average with two doubles, three home  runs, eight runs scored and 13 RBI in Delaware’s five games played  during the week. During the week, the left-handed slugger had three  multi-hit games that included a two-homer, seven-RBI effort in a 17-8  victory over UMBC on Apr. 10 at Bob Hannah Stadium. 

Since April 1, Yezzo has been on a tear, collecting a hit and an RBI in  12 of his last 13 games played. In that span he has raised his batting  average nearly 100 points, from .250 to .347. 

In addition to Yezzo, the College Baseball Hall of Fame All-Star Lineup  included; Stony Brook junior Willie Carmona, New Mexico junior Mitchell  Garver, Augustana junior Derek Hansen, Florida junior Brian Johnson,  Heartland CC sophomore Dylan Johnson, St. Xavier freshman Andy Kovarik,  Baylor senior Josh Ludy, Suffolk junior Jhonneris Mendez, TCU sophomore  Andrew Mitchell, St. Xavier sophomore Brad Myjak, UC Davis senior Dayne  Quist, Franklin Pierce senior James Roche, Davidson freshman Harry  Sisson, John A. Logan College freshman Derek Thompson, McMurry senior  Matt Thompson, NC State freshman Trea Turner, Texas A&M junior Michael  Wacha, St. John’s senior Matt Wessinger, North Florida junior Kyle  Westwood, Elgin CC Coach Bill Angelo, Fairfield Coach Bill Currier,  Rutgers Coach Fred Hill, Joliet JC Coach Wayne King and LSU Coach Paul  Mainieri. 

Yezzo was also named Northeast Region Player of the Week by  CollegeBaseballInsider.com and was joined by a fellow member of the  Colonial Athletic Association, Georgia State senior right-hander Ben  Marshall, who was named Northeast Region Pitcher of the Week.  The  Northeast Region for CollegeBaseballInsider.com consists of eight  conferences; America East, Atlantic 10, Big East, Colonial, Ivy, Metro  Atlantic, Northeast and Patriot. 

Earlier in the week, Yezzo was named CAA Player of the Week and became  the third Blue Hen honored this spring by the CAA as pitcher Eric Young  was named CAA Pitcher of the Week on March 5 and freshman outfielder  Tyler Powell was selected as CAA Rookie of the Week on Feb. 28. 

Delaware, which currently stands tied for third place in the CAA  standings, enjoys its yearly CAA bye weekend this weekend before the  Blue Hens host Hofstra on Friday, April 27, to start a three-game, CAA  weekend series at Bob Hannah Stadium.
