RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware baseball team was honored by  the Colonial Athletic Association for the second consecutive week on  Monday as Blue Hens right-handed pitcher Corey Crispell was named CAA  Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week.

Crispell (at right), a senior from Hatboro, Pa. (Hatboro-Horsham HS), led the Blue  Hens to a 4-1 victory over Georgia State in game one of Saturday’s  doubleheader. In his start, Crispell tossed eight innings as the  right-hander held the Panthers to one earned run on three hits and four  strikeouts. In Crispell’s last two CAA starts he has posted a 2-0 record  with a 1.13 ERA.

With the series victory over Georgia State, the University of Delaware  baseball team qualified for the CAA Baseball Tournament for the first  time since 2009.  The CAA Baseball Tournament will be held from May  23-26 on the campus of James Madison University at Veterans Memorial  Park in Harrisonburg, Va.

Delaware won all five road CAA series this spring after the Blue Hens  took two of three games against Georgia State over the weekend in  Atlanta.  The Blue Hens finished the season with a 12-3 CAA road record.

Crispell owns a 6-3 record with a 3.47 ERA in 80.1 innings with 48  strikeouts in 13 games (11 starts) this season.  His six wins and 80.1  innings pitched lead the Blue Hens pitching staff while his 3.47 ERA is  tops among UD starters.

In addition to Crispell, the CAA named Northeastern junior catcher Jon  Leroux Player of the Week and VCU freshman shortstop Vimael Machin  Rookie of the Week. Leroux batted .563 (9-16) with three home runs and  11 RBI while Machin tallied a .438 (7-16) batting average with a double,  triple, home run and seven runs scored.

Crispell becomes the fifth Blue Hen baseball player honored this spring  by the CAA, including sophomore right-hander Chad Kuhl who was named CAA  Co-Pitcher of the Week last week. Other Delaware CAA baseball award  winners this season include senior pitcher Eric Young was (CAA Pitcher  of the Week on Mar. 5), freshman outfielder Tyler Powell (CAA Rookie of  the Week on Feb. 28), and sophomore infielder Jimmy Yezzo  (CAA Player  of the Week on Apr. 16).

This week, Crispell and the Blue Hens (26-23, 16-11 CAA) host Saint  Joseph’s University on Tuesday, May 15, with a 3 p.m. first pitch at Bob  Hannah Stadium.  UD completes the week with Senior Weekend as Delaware  hosts Northeastern for a three-game CAA weekend series.  The series  opener is set for Friday, May 18, with game time set for 3 p.m. at Bob  Hannah Stadium.
