Corey Crispell Selected MVP as University of Delaware Baseball Names 2012 Team Award Winners

NEWARK, Del. – Senior pitcher Corey Crispell, who was named the team's Pape Lukk Alumni Association Most Valuable Player, headlines the University of Delaware baseball team’s yearly award winners announced this week by head coach Jim Sherman.
In addition to Crispell (at right), relief pitchers Devon Pearson and Stephen Richter were tabbed the squad’s Pitchers of the Year, Jimmy Yezzo was selected Offensive Player of the Year, shortstop Brock Niggebrugge was named Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman catcher Ty Warrington was tabbed the Max Orland Rookie of the Year. Senior right-handed pitcher Eric Young was named the Perry Burkett Triple Effort Award winner for the second-straight year.
This week, the Blue Hens (27-25, 17-13 CAA) will begin post-season play at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. The No. 3 seed Blue Hens will face No. 6 seed Towson in the second game of the opening round of the tournament. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park. The double elimination tournament will run through Saturday with the winner earning an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Crispell, a senior from Hatboro, Pa. (Hatboro-Horsham HS), led the Blue Hens with six victories for the second-straight season. He led the starting s
taff with a 3.75 ERA and paced UD with 86.1 innings pitched. The 6-4 right-hander was also named CAA Pitcher of the Week on May 14.
Niggebrugge, a freshman from Bear, Del. (Caravel Academy), started all 52 games at shortstop for the Blue Hens this season. He was second on the team with 30 double plays to go along with a .953 fielding percentage in 232 total chances. He led the team with 15 sacrifice bunts and recorded a .241 batting average.
Pearson (at left), a senior from Reedsville, Pa. (Indian Valley HS), led the team with a 1.61 ERA in 24 appearances out the bullpen. The southpaw owned a 4-1 record with six saves while holding the opposition to a .267 batting average in 44.2 innings on the mound.
Richter, a junior from Wayne, Pa. (Conestoga HS), tallied eight saves, which led the Delaware bullpen, and held opponents to a .187 batting average in 20 appearances. The right-hander finished the regular season with a 3.13 ERA and struck out 14.9 batters per nine innings.
Warrington (at right), a freshman from Hockessin, Del. (A.I. Dupont HS), played 38 games as the team’s catcher and eliminated 35.1-percent (13-37) of potential base-stealers. The 5-9 backstop hit .277 (28-101) with five extra-base hits (three doubles, one triple and one home run), 12 RBI, and nine runs scored. 
Yezzo, a sophomore from Cherry Hill, N.J. (Bishop Eustace HS), paced the UD offense with six home runs and a .500 slugging percentage in 44 games. The power-hitting first baseman was third on the team with a .329 (52-158) batting average in addition to earning a CAA Player of the Week selection on April 16.
Young, a senior from Redlands Calif. (Redlands East Valley HS), led the team with 13 starts and posted a 5-4 record. The right-handed pitcher sits second on the pitching staff in wins (5), innings pitched (79.1), and strikeouts (54).
