Five University of Delaware Field Hockey Players Named to Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Five members of the University of Delaware field hockey squad have been selected to the Gladiator by SGI/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I National Academic squad.
Blue Hen freshman forward Chelsea Davis, junior goalkeeper Noelle Diana, freshman midfielder Clare O’Malley, freshman forward Kasey Prettyman, and junior midfielder Carli Shutter (at right) were among nearly 600 student-athletes from 71 institutions honored for having a cumulative grade point average in excess of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.
Shutter a junior exercise science major from York, Pa. (Central York High School), earned the award for the second time in her career. She started all 18 games in 2010 and recorded four assists. She is also a member of the UD Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).
Diana, a junior pre-veterinary science major from Flanders, N.J. (Mt. Olive HS), started all 18 games in goal and recorded a 3.48 goals against average and a .686 save percentage. She is also a member of the UD Athletic Governing Board.
Prettyman, a freshman nursing major from Newark, Del. (St. Mark’s HS), played in all 18 games as a freshman in 2010 and started four contests. She scored one goal on the season and was named the CAA Rookie of the Week in October.
Davis, a freshman history education major from Earleville, Md. (Bohemia Manor HS), did not see game action in 2010 and retained her freshman eligibility.
O’Malley, a freshman business major from Summit, N.J. (Summit HS), earned Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie honors in 2010 after starting all 18 games and leading all UD freshmen with six points on a goal and four assists.
Delaware posted a record of 8-10 overall in 2010 and placed fifth in the CAA standings with a 2-5 record under former head coach Carol Miller.
New head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, the former head coach at Michigan State, will lead the Blue Hens this fall.
