NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware field hockey squad made an impressive showing in the classroom this past fall and the Blue Hens have been honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for their academic work.
The NFHCA recently announced its Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Team award and its National Academic squad selections and Delaware was well represented.
Delaware, led by first-year head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, was selected as one of just 65 institutions at the NCAA Division I level that posted a team cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
Individually, Delaware senior Noelle Diana, sophomore Kasey Prettyman, and freshmen Meredith Bonnell and Chelsea Davis were named to the All-Academic squad for recording a 3.30 or higher gpa for the first semester.
Davis is a history major and Spanish minor from Earleville, Md. (Bohemia Manor HS), Bonnell is a pre-veterinary medicine major from Wilmington, Del. (Ursuline Academy), Prettyman is a nursing major from Newark, Del. (St. Mark’s HS), and Diana is a pre-veterinary medicine major with a minor in biology from Flanders, N.J. (Mt. Olive HS).
“Congratulations are in place to our entire group of student-athletes as they worked together to secure this team award,” said van de Kerkhof. “I also would like to recognize Meredith, Chelsea, Noelle, and Kasey for taking their individual academic standings to the next level and being named to the Academic Squad. Our program also would like to share a sincere thanks to Gilah Rosenberg and Tim Morrissey of UD Student Services for Athletes (SSA) for their support and guidance so far during the 2011-2012 academic year.”
