Blue Hen Football Takes No. 6 National Rankings into Bye Week

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware football squad will take a No. 6 national ranking into its bye week.
The Blue Hens (7-1), who suffered their first loss of the season Saturday with a heart-breaking 17-16 setback to then No. 4 William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., dropped four spots from No. 2 to No. 6 in The Sports Network and American Football Coaches Association/Football Championship Subdivision polls announced Monday. Delaware also moved from the top spot to No. 2 in the ECAC Lambert Meadowlands Eastern poll.
Delaware, tied for the Colonial Athletic Association lead with a 4-1 mark in league play, will be off this week in preparation for a Homecoming battle vs. CAA rival Towson next Saturday, Nov. 6, at Delaware Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
The CAA placed five teams in the top 10 and eight teams in the Top 20 in both polls.
Appalachian State (7-0) remained at the top spot in The Sports Network poll once again as the Mountaineers earned 136 of the 156 first place votes to earn 3,873 points. Jacksonville State (8-0) moved up one spot to No. 2 and earned 17 first place votes while William & Mary (6-1) used its upset win over Delaware to move up a spot to No. 3 with two first place votes. Stephen F. Austin (6-1) was fourth and earned the other first place vote.
Defending national champion Villanova was at No. 5 followed by Delaware, Montana, Eastern Washington, Wofford, New Hampshire, Southeast Missouri State, Bethune-Cookman, Montana, Richmond, James Madison, Liberty, South Carolina State, Massachusetts, Northern Iowa, Chattanooga, Penn, Cal Poly, Grambling, Jacksonville State, and Northern Arizona.
In the AFCA/FCS poll, Appalachian State remained in the top spot with 26 of the 27 first place votes. Jacksonville State was at No. 2 followed by Stephen F. Austin (1), William & Mary, Villanova, Delaware, Montana, Eastern Washington, New Hampshire, Wofford, Southeast Missouri State, Liberty, Montana State, Richmond, James Madison, Bethune-Cookman, South Carolina State, Massachusetts, Northern Iowa, Cal Poly, Penn, North Dakota State, Chattanooga, Western Illinois, and Grambling.
In the ECAC Lambert Meadowlands poll, William & Mary took over the top spot for Delaware and earned 180 points. Delaware was tied for No. 2 with Villanova followed by New Hampshire, Penn, James Madison, Richmond, Robert Morris, Massachusetts, Lehigh.
