Blue Hen Senior Justin Martinson Named DSGA Player of the Year

STANTON, Del. – University of Delaware senior Justin Martinson was named the Delaware State Golf Association Player of the Year last Wednesday at the DSGA dinner at White Clay Creek Country Club.
Martinson (at right), who captured the 2009 DSGA Open, won the 2010 DSGA Amateur this July and finished ninth at the 2010 DSGA Open in August. He joined Chris Anderson as the only golfers to have won the DSGA Amateur, Open and Junior titles in their career.
Martinson captured the 2010 DSGA Amateur on July 12-14 at the Wilmington Country Club South Course. He fired rounds of 66, 75, 73, and 67 to card a five under par score of 281 and post a four stroke victory. He began the final round two strokes behind the leader but rallied with a four under par 67 that included five birdies and just one bogey.
Martinson then finished ninth at the 2010 DSGA Open on August 2-4 at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in Wyoming, Del. Martinson, who posted the third lowest score among amateurs, fired a pair of three under par rounds of 69 on Monday and Tuesday, before finishing the tournament with an even par 72 on Wednesday. He finished the three-day event six under par by carding 69-69-72-210 on the par 72, 6,608-yard course.
Martinson continued his impressive play during the Blue Hens’ fall season, leading the squad with a 72.87 average during 15 rounds. He earned medalist honors and broke his own UD single round record by carding 77-64-141 at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate on October 16-17. Additionally, he finished second in the individual standings at the Navy Fall Classic and fifth at the Joe Agee Invitational.
