Blue Hen Golfers Conclude 2010 Fall Season With 12th Place Finish at ODU Outer Banks Invitational

POWELLS POINT, N.C. -- The University of Delaware golf team wrapped up its 2010 fall season on Tuesday by finishing in 12th place out of 18 teams at the Old Dominion Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational.

The Blue Hens shot a 298 on Tuesday and finished the tournament with a three-round team score of 886. East Carolina won the team title with an 827 score, while Richmond was second at 850 and Liberty came in third at 856.

UD senior Kevin McLister fired an even par 72 on Tuesday on the par 72, 6,535-yard course at Kilmarlic Golf Club and finished in a tie for 17th place in the individual standings with a one under par 69-74-72-215.

Stephen Scialo (at right) had the lowest round by a Blue Hen by carding a two under par 70 during his final round, and the junior finished in a tie for 46th place with a six over par 76-76-70-222. Classmate Greg Matthias carded a five over par 77 on Tuesday and tied for 58th place in the final standings with a nine over par 75-73-77-225.

Senior Justin Martinson shot a nine over par 81 Tuesday to finish in a tie for 63rd place by carding a 10 over par 69-76-81-226, while junior Bobby Arthur fired a seven over par 79 in his final round to finish 83rd at 79-77-79-235, 19 over par.

Harold Varner of East Carolina earned medalist honors with a 20 under par 65-66-65-196, while Matthew Broome of Furman finished nine strokes behind with an 11 under par 66-68-71-205.

The ODU Outer Banks Collegiate Invitational concludes a successful fall season for the Blue Hens, who posted five top-10 finishes in six tournaments and captured the Navy Fall Classic team title on September 11-12. Delaware opens its 2011 spring schedule on February 27-28 when the Blue Hens compete in the UNC Wilmington Seahawk Invitational.
