Jawan Carter Earns Blue Hen Basketball Club Outstanding Achievement Award at University of Delaware Men’s Basketball Dinner

NEWARK, Del. -- Senior guard Jawan Carter earned the Blue Hen Basketball Club Outstanding Achievement Award at the annual University of Delaware Men’s Basketball Dinner held Thursday night at Cafe Gelato on Main Street.
Carter, who earned the award for the second consecutive year, started all 31 games for the Blue Hens this season while leading the team with 16.0 points per game. He ranked fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring, led the league with 2.7 three-pointers made per game, and was third with an 84.7 free throw percentage.
Carter connected on 84 three-pointers during his senior season, second most in a UD single season, and drilled a school record-tying eight treys during the win over Howard on November 19. He reached double figures in 24 games on the year, and eclipsed the 20-point mark 13 times. Carter scored a season-high 29 points during the Blue Hens’ win over Old Dominion on December 4, and hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer to give Delaware a 64-62 triumph at Georgia State on January 22.
Carter started all 94 games during his three-year Blue Hen career, tying the school record for consecutive games started along with teammate Brian Johnson. Carter, whose 635 career three-pointers attempted are a Delaware record, also ranks second in UD history with 452 free throws made and 220 three-pointers made. Additionally he ranks fifth at Delaware with 1,542 career points and 12th with 308 assists.
Carter and the Blue Hens finished the 2010-11 season with a 14-17 overall record, a seven-win improvement from the previous season, and advanced to the CAA Tournament Quarterfinals.
