Blue Hen Freshman Guard Devon Saddler Earns Second CAA Rookie of the Week Honor

RICHMOND, Va. -- Blue Hen freshman guard Devon Saddler has earned Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after leading Delaware in scoring during UD’s two games last week.
Saddler averaged 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds on the week while shooting 48.4 percent (15 of 31) from the field. He scored a team-high 19 points and tied his season-best with six rebounds while playing all 40 minutes last Wednesday at Old Dominion, going 7 of 16 from the floor while connecting on all four of his free throw attempts. Saddler then reached his career-high by pouring in 20 points Saturday against Drexel, hitting 8 of 16 shots from the field to go with three rebounds and two steals.
Saddler, who has reached double figures in 10 of the last 11 games, is averaging 16.7 points during the last six contests. He has led the Blue Hens in scoring during five of Delaware’s last six games.
Saddler currently is tied for ninth in the CAA with 3.2 assists per game, 13th with a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio, and 21st with 11.5 points per game. He leads all conference freshmen in scoring and ranks second among newcomers in assists.
Saddler and the Blue Hens are home on Wednesday to host CAA co-leader VCU at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
