Blue Hens Earn Seventh Seed in CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Will Face 10th-Seeded Northeastern Friday in First Round

RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware has earned the No. 7 seed in the 2011 Virginia 529 College Savings Plan Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship and will face 10th-seeded Northeastern Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round.
The Blue Hens went 13-16 during the regular season and finished in seventh place in the league standings with an 8-10 conference mark. The Huskies finished 11-19 overall and tied for ninth in the league with a 6-12 conference record.
Other first round games on Friday feature No. 8 seed UNC Wilmington facing No. 9 seed Georgia State at 12 noon, No. 5 seed Drexel taking on No. 12 seed Towson at 2:30 p.m., and No. 6 seed James Madison facing No. 11 seed William & Mary at 8:30 p.m.
The winner of the UNC Wilmington-Georgia State game will take on top-seeded George Mason Saturday at 12 noon in the quarterfinals, while No. 4 seed VCU will face the winner of the Drexel-Towson game at 2:30 p.m. No. 2 seed Old Dominion will face the winner of the Delaware-Northeastern game at 6 p.m., and No. 3 seed Hofstra will take on the winner of the James Madison-William & Mary game at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament semifinals will be held Sunday at 12 noon and 2:30 p.m., with the final on Monday at 7 p.m. All games will be held at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
Friday’s first round games will be webstreamed on www.caasports.com. The four Saturday quarterfinal contests and both semifinal games on Sunday will be televised by The Comcast Network, while the championship game on Monday will be televised by ESPN.
Delaware swept the season series with Northeastern this year, posting a 54-52 victory in Newark on January 19 and a 72-66 win in Boston on February 15. The Huskies defeated the Blue Hens, 77-67, in the 2007 first round during the only other meeting between Delaware and Northeastern in the CAA Tournament. The Blue Hens have won the other two postseason meetings between the two schools, recording wins during the America East Tournament Semifinals in both 1993 and 2001.
