NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball program has announced the addition of Carl Baptiste, who recently transferred to UD after playing two seasons at Saint Joseph’s, to its squad.
Baptiste will sit out the upcoming 2011-12 season due to NCAA transfer regulations, and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2012-13 season.
Baptiste, a 6-8 forward from Pittstown, N.J., appeared in 47 games while starting two during his two years with the Hawks. He totaled 85 points and 70 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent from the field and blocking 19 career shots.
Baptiste appeared in 30 games and started a pair during his freshman campaign, when he averaged 2.1 points and 1.7 boards. He was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week after posting career-highs of 13 points, six rebounds and three blocks during a 77-66 victory over Lehigh on December 20. Baptiste added nine points and five boards versus Rhode Island, and had four points in five other contests.
Baptiste saw action in 17 games this past season for Saint Joseph’s, averaging 1.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per outing. He scored a season-high seven points at Massachusetts, and pulled down a season-best five rebounds against Princeton.
