Blue Hens Earn Fifth Seed in CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, Will Face 12th-Seeded Towson Friday in First Round

RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Delaware has earned the No. 5 seed in the 2012 Virginia 529 Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Championship and will face 12th-seeded Towson Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the first round.
The Blue Hens went 17-12 during the regular season, their most wins since the 2000-01 season, and finished in fifth place in the league standings with a 12-6 conference mark, their highest CAA win total since joining the league. The Tigers finished 1-30 overall and 1-17 in the conference.
Other first round games on Friday feature No. 8 seed James Madison facing No. 9 seed UNCW at 12 noon, No. 7 seed Northeastern taking on No. 10 seed William & Mary at 6 p.m., and No. 6 seed Georgia State facing No. 11 seed Hofstra at 8:30 p.m.
The winner of the James Madison-UNCW game will take on top-seeded Drexel Saturday at 12 noon in the quarterfinals, while No. 4 seed Old Dominion will face the winner of the Delaware-Towson game at 2:30 p.m. No. 2 seed VCU will face the winner of the Northeastern-William & Mary game at 6 p.m., and No. 3 seed George Mason will take on the winner of the Georgia State-Hofstra game at 8:30 p.m.
The tournament semifinals will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with the final on Monday at 7 p.m. All games will be held at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, Va.
Friday’s first round games will be webstreamed on www.caasports.com. The four Saturday quarterfinal contests and both semifinal games on Sunday will be televised by The Comcast Network, while the championship game on Monday will be televised by ESPN.
Delaware swept the season series with Towson this year, posting a 62-43 victory in Newark on Jan. 23 and a 76-69 win in Towson on Feb. 22.

Championship ticket books for all six sessions cost $80, while single session tickets are available for $28 per session.
