RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman guard Jarvis Threatt was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week and the College Sports Madness CAA Player of the Week on Monday after his record-setting performance during the Blue Hens’ win over Georgia State.
Threatt, a native of Richmond, Va. (Highland Springs HS), opened his week by posting team-highs of seven rebounds and three assists while adding four points during Wednesday’s loss at George Mason.
Threatt then exploded for a career-high 30 points during Saturday’s thrilling 77-74 double overtime win over Georgia State, setting the UD freshman record for points in a game. He broke the previous record of 27, set by Ken Luck vs. Rider on March 2, 1979 and by Devon Saddler vs. Rider on February 19, 2011.
Threatt went 10 of 15 from the field against the Panthers, including 6 of 9 from three-point range, and hit four crucial free throws in the final 16 seconds of double overtime to help the Blue Hens hold on for the victory. Threatt’s five first half three-pointers and six consecutive three-pointers made were each one shy of the UD single game marks.
He also made a team-best three steals and grabbed six rebounds to go with an assist and a blocked shot in the all-around effort.
Threatt has appeared in all but one game for the Blue Hens this season, starting two, and is averaging 21.8 minutes per contest. He ranks fifth on the team by averaging 7.0 points per game, is second with 12 steals, and ranks third with 30 assists. He has now reached double figures four times this season, including a 17-point effort at Howard and 11 points at Villanova.
