University of Delaware Men’s Basketball To Face Penn in First Round of 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The University of Delaware men’s basketball team will face the University of Pennsylvania on Monday, November 12 at 9:30 p.m. in the first round of the 2012 NIT Season Tip-Off.

The Blue Hens and Quakers will play at 9:30 p.m. at the University of Virginia’s John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, following the Cavaliers taking on Fairfield at 7 p.m. The winners and losers will face off at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. the following day, with Virginia playing in the 7 p.m. time slot.

The winner of the South Regional will advance to Madison Square Garden, which will host the tournament semifinals on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. on either ESPN2 or ESPNU. The consolation game will be held on Friday, Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m. while the championship game will begin at 4:30 p.m., with both games televised by ESPN.

The three teams that do not win the South Regional will play third and fourth round doubleheaders on Monday, Nov. 19 and Tuesday, Nov. 20 on the campus of the three highest remaining seeds. Delaware, which is seeded eighth, will not be eligible to host the third and fourth round games.

Other regionals include Michigan hosting the North Regional along with IUPUI, Cleveland State and Bowling Green, Pittsburgh hosting the East Regional along with Fordham, Lehigh and Robert Morris, and Kansas State hosting the Midwest Regional along with Lamar, North Texas and Alabama-Huntsville.

This year will mark Delaware’s third appearance in the NIT Season Tip-Off, as the Blue Hens fell at Seton Hall in 1992 and at Temple in 2000.
