NEW ORLEANS - - University of Delaware junior cross-country runner Andy Weaver has been named to the 2010 Mid-Atlantic All-Region team, announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Weaver was among nearly 450 other runners across the NCAA Division I platform that earned All-Region honors, following the NCAA Regional Championships on November 13. Athletes of member schools that finished in the top 25 individually at one of the nine regional sites earned the honor.
Weaver has competed in every race this fall for the Blue Hens, placing 24th at the NCAA Regional Championship in 31:01 to earn the All-Region award. He placed a season best second place in the Blue & Gold Invitational at Delaware on October 16. He also finished fourth at the Delaware Invitational on September 18, finishing the home course in 25:46.3.
He has raced his best in the postseason, however, leading the Blue Hens in the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 15th place with a time of 25.03. Following his performance at the NCAA Regional Championship, Weaver finished a team best 11th at the Inter Collegiate Association Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A), earning him a spot on the All Eastern Championship team for the event.
Weaver is joined by Eric Jenkins (Northeastern) as the only members from the CAA to be named to an All-Region team. The Big 12 Conference had 26 men to lead the conference rankings. The Big East (25), Big Ten (24), and SEC (22) followed in the conference ranks on the men’s side.
As a team, the Blue Hens finished 5th in the CAA Championships, held at UNC Wilmington on October 30. The men followed with an 11th place finish in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at Penn State on November 13.
