NEW ORLEANS -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country teams have both been honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their work in the classroom during the fall semester.
Both Blue Hen squads earned Division I All-Academic Cross Country Team status with the Delaware men among 152 teams honored and the UD women among 192 teams cited. Both Delaware squads are led by head coach Jim Fischer.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country team, the squad must have had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better and have started at least five runners at their NCAA regional championship.
The Delaware men were among five teams from the Colonial Athletic Association, joining William & Mary, George Mason, Northeastern, and UNC Wilmington. The Blue Hen women were joined on the list by fellow CAA members William & Mary, George Mason, James Madison, Northeastern, Towson, UNC Wilmington, and Georgia State.
Six of the 12 members of the Delaware men’s team and 13 of the 23 women’s runners carried a 3.0 or better gpa for the fall semester or have a cumulative grade point average at least that high.
Florida State was named the men’s Scholar Team of the Year for NCAA Division I while Villanova earned the women’s Scholar Team of the Year Award for the second straight year.
