RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware senior Kevin McLister was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Golfer of the Week after his win at the Villanova Wildcat Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
McLister, a native of Leesburg, Va. (Loudoun Valley), carded a three under par 66-73-139 to post a two-shot victory at the tournament, earning medalist honors for the third time in his Blue Hen career. He also captured the Scotty Duncan Memorial Invitational on October 4-5, 2009 and the Andrew Geyer Memorial Classic on October 19, 2009. His CAA Player of the Week award is the second in his career, as he also earned weekly accolades from the conference on October 7, 2009.
McLister opened the invitational by firing a course record five under par 66 during Sunday’s first round on the par 71, 7,009-yard course at White Manor Country Club, tying his career low round and tying for the third lowest round in Delaware history. The senior birdied the fourth, fifth and eighth holes to shoot a one under par 34 on the front nine, and was still at even par through 13 holes. But McLister turned it on from there, posting birdies on 14, 15 and 18 while recording an eagle on 17 to finish the back nine at a four under par 32.
After a par and bogey on his first two holes of Monday’s round, McLister found his game by posting six pars and a birdie on the fifth hole to finish the front nine at even par 35. He fell to three over for the round through 13, but rebounded to birdie 15 and 17 to finish the back nine in 38, two over par.
McLister also led the Blue Hens to their second team title of the season, as Delaware posted a 579 two-round team score to finish first out of 20 teams at the invitational.
McLister and UD are back in action this Friday through Sunday when they compete in the Rutherford Invitational hosted by Penn State.Back To Golf Home Golf Story Archive
