Blue Hen Golfers Finish in Fifth Place at Rutherford Intercollegiate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The University of Delaware golf team recorded a three-round score of 905 and finished fifth out of 16 teams this weekend at the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State University.
The Blue Hens entered the final round tied for second place with a 595 score, but slipped to shoot 310 on Sunday and fell three spots in the standings. The host Nittany Lions captured the team title with a three-round score of 880, while Towson finished in second place seven shots behind at 887. William & Mary was third at 896, Army finished fourth at 897, and Delaware rounded out the top five.
Blue Hen senior Justin Martinson (at right) was tied for first place in the individual standings following the second round, but he carded a nine over par 80 on Sunday on the par 71, 7,202-yard PSU Blue Course. Martinson, who finished with a 10 over par score of 70-73-80-223, ended up tied for 12th at the tournament.
Senior Kevin McLister fired a six over par 77 during his final round and placed 17th by carding 72-75-77-224, 11 over par. Corey Wagner had the best round of the day for the Blue Hens by shooting a five over par 76, and the freshman finished tied for 33rd place with a 17 over par score of 81-73-76-230.
Junior Stephen Scialo carded a six over par 77 on Sunday and finished at 85-74-77-237, 23 over par, to tie for 58th place. Fellow junior Greg Matthias also tied for 58th place after he shot a nine over par 80 during the final round to finish at 77-79-80-236.
T.J. Howe of Penn State took home medalist honors with a three over par 70-73-73-216, finishing one shot ahead of Binghamton’s Jake Katz, who carded a four over par 72-73-72-217.
The Blue Hens will take next weekend off before competing in the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on April 22-24 in Pinehurst, N.C.
