WILMINGTON, Del. -- Blue Hen rising seniors Greg Matthias and Bobby Arthur each qualified for the 2011 Golf Association of Philadelphia 111th Amateur Championship with impressive single rounds on Monday.
Both Matthias (at right), a captain for the 2011-12 season, and Arthur (at left) fired a four over par 76 on the par 72, 6,615-yard course at White Clay Creek Country Club, finishing in a tie for eighth place out of an 86-player field. Both players easily survived the projected cut, which was set at a plus six 78.
The two Blue Hens will compete in the Philadelphia Amateur on June 14-16, with the final round on June 18, at the Manufacturers Golf and Country Club in Fort Washington, Pa. The pair will be looking to become the second consecutive Blue Hen to capture the title, after UD graduating senior Justin Martinson claimed the championship last June.
The Philadelphia Amateur is a prestigious tournament in the Northeast, with the Association’s 142 member clubs spread across the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.
