Blue Hen Men’s Golfer Ben Conroy Finishes Second at Connecticut State Amateur Championship

Athlete photoORANGE, Conn. -- University of Delaware rising senior men’s golfer Ben Conroy finished second at the 110th Connecticut Amateur Championship last week at Race Brook Country Club.

Conroy, who recently completed his first season at UD and will serve as the Blue Hens’ captain during the 2012-13 campaign, carded a three over par 70-75-145 during stroke play to finish in a tie for 17th place and qualify for match play.

Conroy defeated Rob Tedoldi, Jr. 2 and 1 in the round of 32, before posting a 6 and 4 victory over Philip Perry in the round of 16. He then ousted Patrick Ross 2 and 1 in the quarterfinals, and went on to defeat Branden Chicorka 1 up in the semifinals.

Conroy then fell to Matt Smith 7 and 6 in the final, which was a 36-hole format.
