Blue Hen Men’s Golfers Finish Third, Rosal Tied For Fourth at Season-Opening George Washington Invitational

BETHANY BEACH, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s golf team opened its 2012 spring season in impressive fashion as the Blue Hens finished in third place out of 12 teams this weekend at the George Washington Intercollegiate Invitational.
After a pair of sub-300 rounds on Friday, the Blue Hens improved on Saturday with a 291 team score, finishing with a three-round total of 882. Penn captured the team title with an 866 score, finishing 15 shots ahead of Boston College, which finished second at 881. Delaware placed third at 882, George Washington came in fourth at 895, and Binghamton rounded out the top five at 897.
Delaware freshman Niño Rosal (at right) capped his outstanding weekend by carding a three over par 75 on Saturday on the par 72, 6,834-yard course at Bear Trap Dunes Golf Club, finishing in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings with a four over par 71-74-75-220.
Junior Ben Conroy and senior Greg Matthias each fired an even par 72 during Saturday’s final round, as both players finished in a tie for sixth place at five over par. Conroy carded a 75-74-72-221, while Matthias recorded a 73-76-72-221.
Senior Stephen Scialo finished in a tie for 14th place with a seven over par 79-72-72-223 while sophomore Dan Costenbader, playing as an individual, tied for 21st place with a nine over par 74-70-81-225.
Sophomore Corey Wagner carded a 19 over par 76-82-77-235 to finish in 46th place while freshman Fraser Graham, playing as an individual, tied for 48th place after posting a 21 over par 83-79-75-237. Also playing as an individual, senior Bobby Arthur came in 58th place after carding a 30 over par 82-83-81-246.
Max Marsico of Penn earned medalist honors after carding a four under par 72-70-70-212, finishing four shots ahead of Kyle McCarten of Boston College and Scott Williams of Penn.
The Blue Hens are back in action on Mar. 25-27 when they compete in the C&F Bank Intercollegiate at Kingsmill Golf Course in Williamsburg, Va.
