At Delaware: Third-year member of the squad as a midfielder • expected to miss at least the first half of the season with an injury • effective midfielder who adds scoring punch and solid defense • was expected to make a strong push for a spot on the first midfield unit before the injury.
2011 Season: Appeared in all 18 games for the Hens while starting two as a redshirt freshman • earned a spot on the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie team after leading the Blue Hens to the CAA Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament • ranked tied for fourth on the team with 15 goals and recorded two assists on the season • also picked up nine groundballs and had one caused turnover • recorded two goals each vs. Hofstra, Dartmouth and in the CAA Tournament Championship victory over Massachusetts.
2010 Season: Did not see game action in first season at Delaware • retained freshman eligibility.
High School: Standout in lacrosse and basketball at Walt Whitman High School • three-year starter in lacrosse who saw action at both attack and midfield • two-year starter in basketball as a point guard • led basketball teams to three straight league championships • earned all-county honors in lacrosse as both a junior and senior • two-time all-league selection in basketball • honor roll student.
Personal: John Patrick Mills • born Apr. 18, 1991 • son of Rich and Patty Mills • older brother, Dan, finished his career as a four-year backup defenseman for Delaware last season • father, Rich, is a physical education teacher who earned All-American honors twice as a player for the Blue Hens • Rich was a three-time All-East Coast Conference selection who led the Hens to two league titles and led the nation in assists (47) and points (75) in 1975 • economics major at Delaware • works as a lacrosse camp counselor during the summer • avid golfer.
