2012 Season: Did not see game action due to a back injury suffered in fall drills • still served as team co-captain from sidelines.
2011 Season: Started all 18 games during the season • led the team in goals with 25 and tied with Grant Kaleikau for No. 1 spot in points with 45 • also had 20 assists, 28 groundballs and four caused turnovers • scored three goals vs. Presbyterian, Hofstra and Marist • had three assists vs. Detroit and Bellarmine • recorded two goals and two assists vs. Duke in NCAA Tournament first round game • named National 5&10 Best of the Blue Hens Athlete of the Week on Feb. 14 for performance vs. Presbyterian.
2010 Season: Began season at midfielder but moved into spot on attack unit as season went along • saw action in 15 games in a backup role • recorded one goal and dished out four assists * had five shots on goal and also contributed two groundballs • scored first career goal at Delaware in regular season win over Drexel • dished out assists in each of the first three games of the season against Saint Joseph's, UMBC, and Johns Hopkins and in the CAA semifinal win over Drexel.
At Ohio State: Played one season for the Buckeyes in 2009 and helped lead the squad to a record of 8-8 • appeared in just one game as he had two shots and one groundball in a season-opening 21-1 win over Detroit • missed the rest of the season.
High School: Three-year starter on team that advanced to championship three times • had 14 goals and seven assists as a junior and 21 goals senior year • lacrosse team won 36-consecutive games • advanced to the championship in each sport he played • won MIAA soccer titles in 2007 and 2008 • .led league in save percentage as a soccer goalie and earned Most Improved Player honor • team captain for lacrosse and soccer • also played basketball.
Personal: Eric Gerstell Smith • son of Fred and Vanessa Smith • history major at Delaware with a minor in American history • has two older brothers, Alex, a standout faceoff man for Delaware who currently plays Major League Lacrosse, and Jason • Alex is one of Delaware's all-time great players who was a three-time All-American, set numerous school and NCAA faceoff records, led the 2007 team to the NCAA Final Four, and was inducted into the UD Athletics Hall of Fame in November, 2013 • Alex was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Silver Anniversary Top 25 as one of the top 25 athletes in the history of the CAA in all sports • enjoys the outdoors and has a hunting, fishing and riding ranch in Montana • avid Baltimore Ravens fan.
