University of Delaware Men's Lacrosse Selects Austin, Elsmo, Fossner, Kaminski, and Stefurak as 2011 Team Captains

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware men’s lacrosse head coach Bob Shillinglaw has announced that seniors John Austin, Nick Elsmo, Noah Fossner (at right), Kevin Kaminski, and Matt Stefurak have been selected as 2011 team captains.
The five will lead the No. 17 ranked Blue Hens into their season opener this Saturday, Feb. 5, when Delaware hosts Detroit Mercy at 1 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.

All five played key roles in leading Delaware to one of its finest seasons in school history last spring when the Hens posted a 10-7 record, swept through Drexel and Towson to captured the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last six seasons.
Austin, a senior midfielder from Shoreham, N.Y. (Shoreham-Wading River High School), is a three-year letterwinner who will return to anchor the UD midfield unit in 2011. The sociology major started 14 games a year ago and ranked fourth on the team in scoring with 15 goals and three assists. He has recorded 19 goals and 17 groundballs in 41 career games.
Elsmo, a senior midfielder and second-year transfer from Virginia, will also key the Blue Hen midfield unit. The history major from Annapolis, Md. (Severn School), played in 16 games a year ago on the second midfield unit and recorded seven goals and seven assists while scooping five groundballs.
Fossner, a senior goalkeeper from Niskayuna, N.Y. (Niskayuna HS), will start in goal for the second straight season this spring after an outstanding 2010 campaign that saw him earn second team All-CAA honors and earn a spot on the CAA All-Tournament team. The health and physical education major ranked among the top goalkeepers statistically in the CAA a year ago when he posted a 10.0 goals against average and a .522 save percentage. He has recorded 371 saves over the last two seasons. He will serve as a co-captain for the second straight year.
Kaminski, a three-year regular from Wallingford, Pa. (Strath-Haven High School), is Delaware’s active scoring leader with 53 points on 44 goals and nine assists over three seasons. He earned CAA All-Rookie honors in 2007 and was a second team All-CAA pick in 2009. The organizational and institutional major recorded 10 goals and four assists last spring for the Hens. He will also serve as a co-captain for the second straight year.
Stefurak, a third-year starter from Smithtown, N.Y. (Smithtown West HS), has appeared in 45 career games for the Blue Hens. He started all 16 games in 2010 when he recorded 15 groundballs, caused seven turnovers, and added a goal and an assist. He is an economics major at Delaware.
