Athlete photoNEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware will serve as the home of some top-notch lacrosse instruction and tournament action this summer as the Blue Hen coaching staff will host three events for boys of all ages during the month of June.

Blue Hen head coach Bob Shillinglaw and his staff, who have led Delaware to consecutive Colonial Athletic Association titles and berths in the NCAA Tournament four times in the last seven years, will host the Blue Hen Challenge for grades 4-8 on June 18-19, the Blue Hen Challenge for high school students on June 19-21, and the Blue Hen Instructional Camp for ages 8-18 on June 26-29.

For information on any of the three sessions, go to www.bluehenlacrossecamps.com or call 410-920-0637.

The Blue Hen Lacrosse Camps, directed by Shillinglaw for the past 30 years, offers an instructional teaching camp with experienced youth, high school, and college coaches. All the action will be held on the game and practice fields on the University of Delaware south campus.

The Blue Hen Youth Challenge is a competitive youth tournament with eight games over a two-day period. The first challenge will take place on June 18-19 for boys in grades 4-8. Tournament action will be held from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 and from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 19. The cost is $100 per player.

The second Blue Hen Challenge, for students in grades 9-12, is a competitive high school tournament with college coaches in attendance, giving high school players an early summer recruiting opportunity. The tournament will be held over three days from Sunday, June 19 through Tuesday, June 21. The cost is $350 for overnight campers with meals included and $250 for overnight campers with no meals.

The Blue Hen Instructional Camp, to be held June 26-29 for ages 8-18, includes 3 1/2 daily instructional sessions that ensure that athletes will receive the maximum amount of lacrosse instruction. Campers are grouped according to age, size, and skill level.

Instructional emphasis will be on positional & skill play in the morning, team concepts in the afternoon, with games played at the end of each session and in the evening. There will be special individual emphasis on face-off and goalie mechanics. The camper to coach ratio will be 6 to 1, ensuring maximum exposure to the game of lacrosse.

Players can attend as individuals and teams are also encouraged to attend. The cost is $475 per overnight camper and covers the price of a dorm room and meals. The cost is $350 for day campers and includes lunch and dinner each day.
