NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team is raising awareness of the fight against all kinds of cancer for the second straight year.

Saturday, April 14, is Cancer Awareness Day at Delaware Stadium when the Blue Hens host Saint Joseph’s at 1 p.m. The team will sport special pink jerseys during the game, and encourage all fans and the Delaware lacrosse community to show their support by wearing pink to the game.

The team is selling special Cancer Awareness “NEVER QUIT” T-shirts for their cancer awareness initiative, spearheaded and designed by seniors Eric Smith, Carter Bloor, and Tim Langmaid. The T-shirts feature a multi-colored cancer ribbon on the back. The various colors in the ribbon represent the different types of cancer that affect so many.

Fans can go online to the UD Athletics website and purchase t-shirts at: www.bluehens.com/fan-zone/cancerawarenessshirt-orderform.pdf.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the American Cancer Society on behalf of the Fans of University of Delaware Lacrosse.

The shirts cost $20 each and are on sale now through April 2. Shirts can be picked up at the Cancer Awareness Day game on Saturday, April 14 or at the Bob Carpenter Center on the day prior, Friday, April 13. An additional shipping charge can be added to mail the shirts beginning Monday, April 16.

The left sleeve of each of the players’ and coaches’ T-shirts will have the letters EF, JB, and KH, in honor of former Blue Hen Noah Fossner’s mother Elaine, who passed away from breast cancer, John “Chet” Bowe, the late father of Jarred Bowe, who passed away after a battle with lung cancer, and Kathy Holmes, the late mother of former Blue Hen Chad Holmes, who passed away this December after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Saturday, April 14, is also Blue Hens Fandemonium – enjoy the entire day with the Blue Hens! Join us for an action-packed day of Blue Hens Athletics & Recreation including the Fan Zone with live entertainment, food, fun, and football and men’s lacrosse team autographs. Stay tuned to BlueHens.com for more information.

All fans are asked to enter Delaware Stadium through the North End Zone gate only on Saturday, April 14, due to the Blue Hens Fandemonium programming. The UD Athletic Ticket Office and Cancer Awareness T-shirt distribution will present at this new location.
