Athlete photoNEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse squad, coming off an 11-9 victory over Lafayette earlier this week, will return home to Delaware Stadium for the first time in nearly a month Saturday as the Blue Hens host Binghamton at 12 noon in the opening game of men’s-women’s doubleheader.

Following the men’s game, the Delaware women will host Rutgers University at 3 p.m.

Fans attending the men’s game will gain free admission to the women’s game.

The Blue Hens (2-4), who broke a four-game losing streak with the win at Lafayette, will face Binghamton for the first time ever in school history. The Bearcats (1-2), members of the America East conference, are coming off a 6-2 win over Hobart last Saturday after opening the 2013 campaign with losses to Siena and nationally-ranked Cornell.

Delaware will play at home for the first time since Feb. 16 when defending national champion and then top-ranked Loyola pulled out a 9-8 victory with a goal in the final seconds.

Leading the Blue Hens offensively are Eric Smith (13 goals) and Nick Diachenko (14 goals) while Brandon Worrall is among the top UD defenders. Tyler Barbarich ranks No. 15 in the nation with a .580 winning percentage on faceoffs. Smith’s 24-game point-scoring streak ranks No. 11 nationally among active players.

Binghamton is led offensively by Michael Antinozzi (six goals) but it is the Bearcats’ defense that leads the way. Binghamton ranks No. 7 nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 7.3 goals per game. Goalkeeper Max Schefler ranks No. 3 nationally in save pct. (.681) and No. 10 in goals against average (7.3).
