RICHMOND, Va. - University of Delaware sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Paul has been named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Player of the week for Nov. 1 the conference office announced Monday afternoon.
Paul (at right) was also named the National 5 & 10 Best of Blue Hens Athlete of the Week.
The Flemington, N.J. (St. Benedict’s Prep.) native earned his first two victories of the season after shutting out Towson and UNC Wilmington 1-0 on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. His two victories also served as his fifth career shutouts.
Paul, a criminal justice major at the University, made 13 saves during last week’s games, including seven versus UNCW. He now leads the team with 33 stops, carrying a .750 save percentage.
In the waning moments of the UNC Wilmington game, Paul preserved the shutout with a sprawling save, stopping a shot the would have otherwise snuck under the cross bar with just 19 seconds left on the clock.
The two wins were big in the program’s history. The win over Towson snapped a winless streak with the Tigers that dated back to the 1997 season, and was the first victory against Towson at home since 1986. The 1-0 win against UNCW marked the first win in program history over the Seahawks.
This marks the second time Paul has received weekly honors from the conference. He was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 5, 2009.
Paul and the Blue Hens take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in their final regular season game. Delaware begins its fight for a playoff spot at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at Delaware Mini Stadium.
