Athlete photoNEWARK, Del. -- Coming off one of the program’s most successful seasons, the University of Delaware men’s soccer staff, led by Ian Hennessy, who will begin his sixth season at the helm, will partake in the fifth-annual Prevent Child Abuse Delaware (PCAD) 5K and One Mile Family Fun Run on June 8.

The Delaware men’s soccer team will serve as a sponsor for the race, which will be held in Rockford Park in Wilmington, Del., with Hennessy (at right) and his staff, Keith Duncan and Matt Haney, serving as marshals on the five-kilometer course, helping to direct participants along the path.

Entry fee for the race is set at $18 if participants preregister and $22 the day of the event. Online registration can be found by clicking here. The overall top male and female will be given awards, as will the top three finishers in 10 different age categories.

“Our staff works year round with young children coaching, running clinics at local schools and clubs and inviting them to games on our beautiful campus” commented University of Delaware coach Ian Hennessy, who guided the team to its first-ever berth in the Colonial Athletic Association tournament. “We became interested in this particular cause primarily through conversations with one of our soccer alumnus, Andrew Gonser who serves on the PCAD board. Andrew’s idea and the PCAD cause is a natural fit for us and we have been delighted to be able to help since its inception five years ago. Last year it was nice to have Beau Biden, the States Attorney General, join us on the evening.”

Gonser was a letterwinner on the men’s soccer team in 1996 and currently serves on the PCAD board. Gonser’s law firm, Gonser and Gonser, P.A., is also a sponsor of the race.
