Delaware Men’s Soccer Announces 2012 Schedule; Defending CAA Champs to Play Four NCAA Tournament Teams

NEWARK, Del. -- Four teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago highlight the defending Colonial Athletic Association champion University of Delaware men’s soccer team’s 2012 schedule that was announced Tuesday.
Head coach Ian Hennessy, who led the Blue Hens to their finest season in school history a year ago, will put his team to the test 19 teams this fall as Delaware will take on 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Duke, Old Dominion, Georgia State, and James Madison.
Delaware will welcome back 10 letterwinners from a team that posted a record of 13-6-4, captured its first-ever CAA Tournament title, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after knocking off national power Virginia in the opening round. Delaware, which earned votes in the national Top 25 rankings, ended its season with a tough 1-0 loss to eventual national semifinalist UCLA in the second round.
The Blue Hens, who will be looking to advance to the CAA Tournament for a school-record third straight year, will face yet another grueling CAA schedule this fall led by games against 2011 NCAA Tournament participants Old Dominion (Oct. 7 at Delaware Mini-Stadium), Georgia State (CAA opener Sep. 29 at Atlanta), and James Madison (Oct. 14 in Harrisonburg, Va.).
Delaware will also host CAA foes Towson, Hofstra, George Mason, and UNCW. The CAA Tournament quarterfinals will be held Nov. 3-4 with the semifinals and championship game slated for Nov. 9-11 at the site of the highest seed.
The non-league schedule will include road games at Massachusetts for the season opener Aug. 24, North Carolina State (at Durham, N.C.), Duke, Pittsburgh and Duquesne at the Pittsburgh Tournament, Columbia, and Lafayette. The home non-league schedule will consist of Navy for the home opener Sept. 12 and Seton Hall.
