Hans Gillan Competes in Short Course National Championships in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - - Even with the University of Delaware swim programs off until the beginning of January, the Blue Hens are still making a splash as senior Hans Gillan competed at he 2010 AT&T Short Course National Championships this past weekend, hosted by Ohio State University.
Gillan, who is awaiting clearance for a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA, swam in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke, and 100-yard freestyle events among at least 65 other swimming programs at the national meet.
Swimming under the team name of Blue Hen Aquatics, Gillan had a top finish of 48 in the 100-yard butterfly preliminaries. Missing the finals by .57 seconds, Gillan finished the event in 49.64 seconds.
Swimming in his first official meet this season, Gillan came in 52nd in the 100-yard freestyle event, finishing in 45.99 in the preliminaries. He was only .55 seconds away from the final spot in the final rounds.
In the third and final event for Gillan over the weekend, he placed 54th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.23.
By virtue of medal counts, the Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics won the men’s half of the meet, earning five gold, three silver and three bronze medals for a total of 11 podium visits. The University of Southern California topped the women’s charts with 15 medals. They earned 11 gold and four silver medals over the weekend. The University of Southern California also took home the overall meet championship, earning 23 total medals between the men and women’s programs. They ousted the University of California who gained 19 total medals.
The men and women’s swim programs are off until January 2, 2011, when they travel to Florida for training and competition. They return to dual meet action on January 8 when they travel to Towson for a 1 p.m. start.Back To Men's Swimming Home Men's Swimming Story Archive
