RICHMOND, Va. - - After sweeping past La Salle and Rider on Saturday, the University of Delaware men’s swimming team was rewarded outside of the pool, as Ryan Roberts was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Swimmer of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office.

Roberts is the second Blue Hen to earn a Swimmer of the Week award this season, as Grady Carter was honored as the swimmer of the week on October 19.

Roberts helped lead the Blue Hens to a tri-meet sweep over visiting La Salle and Rider on Saturday, as Delaware (6-1, 3-1 CAA) took a 169-130 decision over the Explorers and a 208-91 score over the Broncs.

The sophomore finished with four first place times, leading the Blue Hens. He won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:42.24 before showing his versatility in claiming the top prize in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:53.13. He also went on to win the middle distance, 500-yard freestyle event in 4:41.05. He topped off the tri-meet opening the 400-yard freestyle relay team that touched home before any other team in 3:06.72.

The Emmaus, Pa. native has now won seven events on the year, winning each of the four 200-yard freestyle events he has entered. He has also placed second in three other 500-yard freestyle races in addition to the win this past weekend.

Roberts will continue to lead the Blue Hens this week as they prepare for the Frank Elm Invitational hosted by Rutgers this weekend.
