RICHMOND, Va. - - After leading his Blue Hens in the Delaware Diving Invitational, University of Delaware sophomore diver Brian Coonce has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Diver of the Week, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Coonce had the best finishes from the 1-meter and 3-meter for either the men’s or women’s team on Saturday, February 5, as the Blue Hens hosted Towson and West Chester in Rawtrom Natatorium.
The Arlington, Va. native won the 3-meter event, posting a score of 302.15 besting Ryan Kuser from West Chester by 10.20 points. Coonce followed that performance up with a second place finish from the 1-meter board, scoring 282.80 points from the shorter springboard.
It is the second time this season that Coonce has been named the CAA Men’s Diver of the Week, as he was named Co-Diver of the Week on January 11, when he tabbed personal best scores from each distance in a 218-66 rout over Towson the Saturday before. It is also the second time in his career that he has been mentioned the CAA Diver of the Week.
The swim teams join the divers once again this weekend, as both the men and women’s squads travel to College Park, Md. to compete in the Terrapin Invitational at the University of Maryland. The preliminary heats begin at 11 a.m. with the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
