PHILADELPHIA - - The University of Delaware men’s swimming team cruised by Drexel, 186-103, while the women’s team split its day with a 224-69 rout over Drexel and a narrow 151-148 loss to Northeastern on Saturday afternoon at Drexel’s Daskalakis Athletic Center.

The men swept their way through six events, including their first four individual events en route to their second straight rout during their Colonial Athletic Association schedule. Last week, they swept eight events while taking a 218-66 decision over Towson. The sweeping starting in the 1000-yard freestyle event, and continued through the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, and the 100-yard breaststroke.

Leading the Blue Hen men (8-1, 5-1 CAA) was Ryan Roberts (at right) who ended the afternoon with three first-place finishes and a second-place finish. His day started with the first leg of the 200-yard medley relay event, where the team of Roberts, Mike Wodoslawsky, Cole Clark and Grady Carter touched home in 1:34.08. He then showed off his versatility by winning the 100-yard backstroke in 52.00 and the 500-yard freestyle event in 4:41.88.

Other first place finishes for the men were Mike Garbarino, Kyle McLaughlin, Zach Schaivo, Craig Young, Dominic Pavlik, Robert MacLeish, Paul Gallagher, and Nick Woomer.

The women (7-4, 4-4 CAA) split a pair of CAA contests, easily getting by Drexel, but were not able to make up the deficit in the final two events against Northeastern. They needed two top-three finishes in the final 200-yard freestyle event but place second and fourth, missing third place by .22 seconds. They started the meet off on the right foot once again, placing first and third in the 200-yard medley relay to start the meet. The Blue Hen women followed that performance up with two top-three finishes in the next two events but could not hang on to complete the sweep.

Courtney Raw and Hannah Facchine each ended the day with three first place finishes to lead the Blue Hens. Raw and Facchine were both apart of the 200-yard medley relay team that took first place in 1:48.90 to start off the meet. The sophomore Raw then swept both backstroke events for the second week in a row, winning the 100-yard event in 58.38 and the 200-yard event in 2:06.84. Facchine matched Raw step-for-step as she swept the breaststroke events, first winning the 100-yard event in 1:07.65 before claiming the 200-yard race in 2:26.48.

Both the men and the women’s team return to action on January 26, as they compete in a midweek meet at NCAA Division III Widener. The first gun is slated for 6 p.m.
