RICHMOND, Va. - - For the second week in a row, and the fourth time during the 2010-11 season, the University of Delaware men’s swim team earned the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Swimmer of the Week, as Ryan Roberts earned the honor for the second time this season, announced today by the conference office.

Roberts (at right) helped lead the Blue Hen men (8-1, 5-1 CAA) to their sixth straight dual meet victory as they defeated Drexel, 186-103, on Saturday in Philadelphia. He won two individual races while also being a staple in two relay teams that placed first and second during the meet.

The sophomore’s day started as the opening leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that placed first in the opening men’s event on the afternoon, setting the stage for the team’s victory. Roberts followed the team relay up with individual wins in the 100-yard backstroke and showed his versatility by winning the 500-yard freestyle.

The three first place finishes on Saturday increase his season total to 13 wins, including 10 individual events. It was the second week in a row that he won the 100-yard backstroke event, and the second time during the season he has touched home first in the 500-yard freestyle.

The Emmaus, Pa. native also won the CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week award on November 16, after he was a part of four winning events against La Salle and Rider at home in Rawstrom Natatorium, including three individual races.

Roberts and the Blue Hens have this weekend off from meets, but will be back in the water on Wednesday, January 26, when they travel to Widener for a dual meet starting at 6 p.m.
